Sample 1 · English Language

Read the passage and answer the question. Ramesh, a small shopkeeper, opened a recurring deposit account and saved a fixed amount every month. When his daughter got admission to college three years later, he was able to pay her fees without borrowing from a moneylender. What helped Ramesh pay his daughter's fees?

  1. A loan from a moneylender
  2. A scholarship from the college
  3. Regular monthly savings in a recurring deposit
  4. Profits from selling his shop
Show answer & explanation

Answer: C. Regular monthly savings in a recurring deposit

The passage says he saved a fixed amount every month in a recurring deposit and so did not need to borrow.

Sample 2 · Numerical Ability

What will come in place of the question mark (?) 35% of 480 + 18² − 125 = ?

  1. 367
  2. 357
  3. 377
  4. 349
Show answer & explanation

Answer: A. 367

168 + 324 − 125 = 367.

Sample 3 · Reasoning Ability

Five friends P, Q, R, S and T sit in a row facing north. R sits in the middle. Q sits at the extreme right end. T sits immediately to the left of R. P is not an immediate neighbour of Q. Who sits between R and Q?

  1. P
  2. T
  3. None
  4. S
Show answer & explanation

Answer: D. S

R = 3, Q = 5, T = 2; P cannot be at 4 (next to Q), so P = 1 and S = 4, which is between R and Q.

Sample 4 · English Language

Read the passage and answer the question. Many people ignore the small print on loan documents. Hidden charges such as processing fees and prepayment penalties can raise the real cost of a loan considerably. Reading every clause before signing can save a borrower a lot of money. What is the main advice given in the passage?

  1. Avoid taking any loans at all
  2. Always choose the bank with the most branches
  3. Pay prepayment penalties as early as possible
  4. Read all the terms of a loan carefully before signing
Show answer & explanation

Answer: D. Read all the terms of a loan carefully before signing

The last sentence states the advice directly: read every clause before signing.

Sample 5 · English Language

Read the passage and answer the question. The flood had damaged the village bridge, so the bank's mobile van could not reach the market. The officials decided to set up a temporary counter in the school building instead. What does the word 'temporary' mean as used in the passage?

  1. Permanent and fixed
  2. Very expensive
  3. Hidden from view
  4. Lasting for only a short time
Show answer & explanation

Answer: D. Lasting for only a short time

The counter was a stop-gap arrangement until the van could return, i.e. lasting only a short time.
